UPDATE: I added my short analysis/reflection.
An ad for Wellcome (one of the big supermarket chains in Hong Kong) based on the premise that if the little daughter saves enough, one dollar at a time, that she can buy back some of her father’s time spent at work.
But why does it stir my emotions? Because Hong Kong people are famously overworked and their children are increasingly raised by housekeepers. A story that touches on both of those at the same time — excellent.
I’m from HK and I see this ad all the time. While I like it, some local newspapers have been doing some surveys recently and showing how pricey their stuff is when compared to the smaller stores. It’s terribly ironic. Just bad timing.
Didn’t know that. Thanks for the tip.
And here’s a comment I left out of my post (for brevity’s sake): It’s a good story, but is it the right story for Wellcome? Are children really shopping at Wellcome? Does the ad even evoke a Wellcome “feel”?
According to your facts — maybe not. I feel like the Wong Tai ads they ran years ago at least had that massively overcrowded and bright supermarket feeling that parallels the shopping experience.
Hi! I have been trying to view your site from China, but it doesn;t load with me using ultraware proxy.
great blog!!!
Really? Has this been happening for a long-time now? We have had that problem before, but I thought we had gotten rid of it.
Do let me know, so we can figure out what to do about it!
